T-Rex Cake

This was my first try at making a cake with a frozen buttercream transfer. It is actually pretty easy. Wilton.com has a very good tutorial on how to make one.
I just found out that the recipient of the cake thought the little green dots looked like peas and once that was said no one at the party wanted cake. I'm a little disappointed by this. They do look like peas but I thought the dots added some much needed color around the edge. What do you think?

Disney Cake

I was asked to make a Disney cake with Belle, Mickey and Minnie and this is what I came up with. The castle is actually rice krispie treats. I did that just to make the whole thing easier to transport. If I made the castle out of cake I would be worried that it would crack while being jostled in the car. The towers and Belle are gumpaste and the Minnie and Mickey and little figures that I found at the dollar store. I added the the ribbon last. It is pretty wide but I really do like the way it looks on the cake.

High Heel Shoe Cake

The high heel shoe is made from gum paste. I found a pattern and several helpful videos online to teach me how to make the shoe. It is actually pretty easy and surprisingly sturdy. The shoe box was fun to make. My favorite part is the writing on top of the box. I free handed the lettering with a small brush and some food coloring mixed with almond extract for the "paint".

Penguin cake

I really like the shape of this cake. It's a little different from a regular round cake so it's a bit more interesting I think. The penguins and snowballs are made from mm fondant. If you click on the picture to enlarge it you can see all the funny little penguins. I have one on ski's, I used spaghetti for the ski poles, and one eating an ice cream cone with a cherry on top. I even put a little tiny cherry stem on it. The cake came out really cute, if I do say so myself!

Poinsettia Wedding Cake

Here is a picture of the cake at the reception. When I was making the cake I commented that it would look nice with white lights and tulle around it. I had to smile when we delivered the cake because the table for the cake was set up just like I had mentioned.

This cake came out pretty. I was not too sure how a blue wedding cake would look but I really like it. It's simple yet elegant.

Snowman Cake

For this cake I was asked to make a simple winter theme with snowmen on a 9x13 cake. Here's what I came up with. The poinsettia on the cake is made of gum paste. This was my first try at a gum paste poinsettia. I wanted to practice since I have a poinsettia wedding cake due just after Christmas.
