Moving Cake

This cake was made for someone moving from Texas to Minnesota.
I tried to do a Texas type theme on the bottom and a cold Minnesota type theme on the top.  I only had a few hours notice to make the cake, had I had a little more time I would have done a little more with it.

Pink Quilted Daisy Cake

This cake was really simple but everyone seemed to like it.  I always like to make a quilted cake because it looks beautiful with very little effort.

Hawaiian Beach Birthday Cake

For this cake I was asked to make a Hawaiian beach cake similar to the first Hawaiian beach cake that I made a few years ago.  I really love the lei around the bottom.  I think it makes the cake have the Hawaiian feel rather than just being a plain old beach cake. I have put palm trees on several of my cakes and every time I make one I love them.  The trunk is just a pretzel rod and the leaves are gum paste.
The kite was put on to cover a little dent-  I do like the kite so, I'm glad for the dent or I wouldn't have thought to put the kite on the cake.

The little blue lump there is sunscreen.
It says SPF 30 on the little label. I painted the Happy Birthday words onto the fondant.
I did this with the "Happy Fall Y'all" cake too.  Painting words on is my new favorite!

Pig Birthday Cake

Katie's 3rd birthday cake was piggies, of course!  She is just pig crazy.  Everything with her has to be pigs.  She has pig slippers, a pig hat, piggie blanket, pig toys and books- it's all pigs with Katie.  The funny thing is that she has never seen any real pigs.  Anyhow, Katies cake was fun to make because we made it into a rainbow inside.  It's not the best picture but you get the idea!

Pink Ribbon Cake

For this cake I had wanted to use a Wilton Ribbon pan but I was unable to get one in time so I just used a knife and eye balled the shape.  After all the trimming the ribbon was not very large so I put in onto a 9x13 fondant covered cake.  I used edible pearls to add a little interest.  The cake looked better in real life than in the picture but most cakes do.

Fall Cake

Today I made this cute fall cake for T to take to work tomorrow.  I really think that it came out pretty cute.  My original plan was to make fall leaves to put on the cake too but I though that it looked cute without them.  I made all of the decorations with mm fondant.  For the lettering I printed the words from the computer and then I put the paper against the cake and traced over the letters with a pencil.  When I removed the paper there was a light imprint of the letters.  I then used some brown food coloring mixed with a bit of vanilla extract and very fine brush and painted on the lettering.  It is a pretty easy way to get nice straight lettering onto a cake quickly and easily.  The little candy corn was also made with mm fondant.  Just took strips of the 3 colors, put them together and cut the little triangle shapes. So cute I put them all over the bottom tier.

Lego Cake

For Jacob's 7th birthday I didn't know what kind of cake to make.  I was feeling a little lazy and tired too so a lego cake fit the bill.  It's easy and he loves legos.  You may recall his cake from last year, which was also a lego cake.  Last year I made a great lego man out of fondant but this year I bought lego ninjago figures.  You can't really tell in the picture but they are actually pens, about 5 or so inches tall.  You can pull the head up and write with it.  The body is like a pen holder.  They are pretty neat.  It is hard being here in Texas with most of my cake supplies still in Pennsylvania. Even though this cake is about a simple as they come Jacob loves it, and to me, that's all that counts!
